While we do not do green projects exclusively, we do encourage clients to think about environmental approaches to building. Suggestions may range from using low VOC paints & carpets - dual-flush toilets and waterless urinals - plywood instead of oriented strand board sheathing - efficient lighting - tankless water heaters - products made from recycled materials - to suggesting they signup to buy green power from Seattle City Light.
Much of what green architecture and development is about goes unseen. Products - methods - sensitivity - use of natural resources should all come together in a green project that ends up creating awareness and a lifestyle that should continue to promote a low-impact on a community.
Several of our clients are building Homes and TownHomes to 5-Star Built Green Standards including water-barrel collection of rainwater - photo-voltaic panels to generate electricity - solar cells to generate hot water - on-site treatment of storm water including the use of pervious concrete. We soon will be working on a full block of residences that will include geo-thermal energy for heating and cooling.
It is now possible to recycle 90% of the building materials during demolition, while keeping environmental hazards out of the waste stream. This, along with greener products are waking up public thinking to the point that clients are now asking how they can be green in constructing new buildings. We embrace and encourage this thinking, and are here to assist.
One of our restaurant client's has a great quote on their menu that reads "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." by Margaret Mead. We agree!
